Rules ages 11-12
JUNIOR DIVISION
(11 & 12 YEAR OLDS)
All play is
according to ASA rules except as noted here. The highlighted portions represent
the changes for 2010.
FIELD
o
The pitching distance shall be 40 feet.
o
The base distance shall be 60 feet.
GAME
-
All games
are seven innings regulation. If a game is tied after seven innings, extra
innings must be played - time permitting. If a game is tied when the time
limit is enforced, it is recorded as such.
-
The
official softball shall be a 12-inch softball (yellow optic) approved by the
Midland Girls Softball League.
-
The game is
called due to time limit after 1 hour and 15 minutes from the start of the
game. The score will be recorded as the score of the last complete inning.
-
During tournament play, after 1 hour and 15 minutes has elapsed, the teams
shall finish the inning.
-
All players
will immediately leave the field once the time limit is reached (ensure the
start time of the game is recorded at beginning of play).
-
Forfeit
time is ten minutes after the scheduled start time.
-
It is the
intention to play all games with the regulation nine players. However, the
game will be played and there will be no forfeit as long as a team can field
a minimum of seven players. Players arriving after the start of the game
must be inserted into and at the end the lineup. Playing with less than nine
players will not result in an out in the missing person’s spot in the
batting order.
-
Players
must wear their team uniform.
-
An inning
is considered complete when the defensive team has acquired three outs or
the offensive team has scored six runs.
-
There shall
be no smoking, swearing or alcoholic consumption by managers, coaches,
parents, fans or players at any time during practices or games.
-
There is
free substitution with the conditions listed below. Substitutes must be
reported to the umpire and the opposing scorekeeper.
-
All
Players must play at least two consecutive innings defensively.
-
The
intent of free substitution is to allow managers added flexibility to
equalize playing time. It should not be used to gain advantage.
-
Penalty
for violation of these rules is forfeit.
-
The batter
is out with the third strike, either called or swinging. With the third
strike, the batter may not advance to first base, even if the catcher fails
to catch the pitch, or catches and drops the pitch; however, base runners
are free to advance.
-
If a team has less than nine players during tournament play, the team may
pick up a maximum of two players. The picked-up players may not pitch at
any time.
EQUIPMENT
o
Catching gear (helmet, face mask with throat protector, chest protector and shin
guards) is required. Helmets with facemask and chinstraps are required for the
batter, batter on-deck, and all base runners. The umpire may call a base runner
out for running without a helmet.
PITCHING
o
A
player may pitch a maximum of seven innings in a double header games.
o
If a pitcher hits four batters in one game, that pitcher will be removed from
the pitching position and not allowed to return to pitcher that game.
BATTING
o
Each team will bat the entire line up so every player gets to bat during the
entire game.
o
Any player showing up after the game starts shall be inserted into line up after
last batter.
